SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois lawmakers have taken steps to help pay for a range of mental health and early childhood services as well as police training. But Democratic Rep. Greg Harris said backers of the legislation lacked enough support Thursday to send the full bill to the Senate. The amendment approved by the Illinois House would provide, among other things, $116 million for early intervention programs intended to identify and help children with developmental delays.
Lawmakers have been considering legislation to fund some state services while the Democratic-controlled General Assembly and Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner disagree over the state budget that was due July 1. A vote on the full bill may not come soon. The House isn't due to meet again until Oct. 20.
