The University of Illinois is asking a judge to dismiss a former soccer player's lawsuit alleging she was improperly cleared to play after a concussion.
Attorneys for the university filed a motion Monday asking that Casey Conine's lawsuit be dismissed because she signed a waiver in which she acknowledged the possibility of injury and agreed to not hold the school legally responsible. The university also says Champaign County Circuit Court isn't the proper venue.
Conine's attorney, Joseph Siprut, accused the university of trying to "deflect responsibility for their misconduct."
Conine claims she was improperly cleared to play in October 2014 after suffering a third concussion in two years at Illinois. She also claims she was left in one game after suffering what proved to be a concussion.
