2 tornadoes touch down in Illinois causing minor damage

Weather officials say a pair of tornadoes caused minor damage in northern Illinois.

The National Weather Service says an EF1 tornado formed near Atkinson in Henry County on Tuesday morning. The tornado had winds reaching 100 mph. The weather service also says an EF0 tornado was briefly on the ground Tuesday afternoon in Summit in Cook County with peak winds of 75 mph.

Weather officials say the Henry County tornado touched down at 9:59 a.m. before lifting up five minutes later, causing damage to trees and farm outbuildings. The Cook County tornado touched down at 1:08 p.m. and traveled about 2/5th of a mile damaging trees, a roof and a fence.

No injuries were reported because of either tornado.
