Public hearing this week on proposed Adams County hog confinment

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will hold a public hearing on a proposed hog confinement facility in western Illinois. The Carthage-based Falcon Ridge Farms has applied for a permit to build a facility to house almost 20,000 hogs northeast of Clayton, in Adams County. It would be operated by Professional Swine Management of Carthage, which manages about 25 hog farms. Ted Ufkes is chief operating officer of Professional Swine Management. He says the facility would be a "breed-to-wean" facility, and the hogs would be moved to a finishing facility.   The public can ask questions and submit testimony at the hearing, scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday in the Adams County Courthouse.
