A nonpartisan Chicago watchdog group has released a report citing major concerns with Gov. Bruce Rauner's proposed budget plan for next year.
The Civic Federation of Chicago says the Republican governor's $31.5 billion recommended budget "relies heavily on projected savings that do not appear to be achievable or prudent."
Rauner has proposed a spending plan that aims to close a $6 billion budget hole entirely by slashing expenses. It includes a $1.5 billion cut to Medicaid and a $2.2 billion savings on a proposal that would overhaul state pension systems.
Democrats say much of the savings are not implementable because they violate the either the state constitution or federal policy.
Rauner's spokeswoman released a statement saying "structural reforms" are included in the governor's pro-business agenda currently being negotiated with lawmakers
