Lawmakers hold hearing on Workers Comp regulations

Illinois state lawmakers today are scheduled to hold a rare hearing into what kind of regulations should be in place for workers who are injured on the job.

The hearing is in response to Governor Bruce Rauner’s call for stricter workers comp policies which would reduce costs for companies.

“I’ve continued to hear in recent years that workers comp is one of the biggest impediments to economic growth and Illinois’ competitiveness and we’re making progress. I think we can get significant workers comp reform done here in the next few weeks.”

Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan has called for the whole House of Representatives to debate the issue, saying there should be a balance between insurance rates paid by companies and what compensation workers who are injured receive.
