U of I chancellor says budget is top priority

Chancellor Phyllis Wise says the budget at the University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus is her top priority for the coming year.

Wise said that Governor Bruce Rauner has said to expect budget cuts. But Wise says furloughs and staff cuts aren't among the options the campus is considering as it prepares for life with less state funding.

The chancellor also said President Obama's new proposal that two years of community college be provided for free could be good as long as it isn't paid for by taking money away from four-year schools.

And Wise talked about the importance of winning athletics programs. She sees sports as a gateway for people to get involved with the university. Wise said she fully supports Athletic Director Mike Thomas.
