U of I President to retire in June

University of Illinois President Robert Easter says it’s possible the school could see a transition to his successor sooner than expected.  He’s slated to retire at the end of June.

But Easter says as incoming president Timothy Killeen gets comfortable, it’s possible that date could be moved up.  Killeen first must finish work at the State University System in New York where he serves as head of its research foundation.

And Easter says Killeen also wants to get a better understanding of Illinois government and politics and visit the U of I’s three campuses.

“As we go forward, the date June 30th not cast in stone, it depends on when he’s ready and we’re at a point of passing on the baton so to speak.”

Killeen will assist Easter in several areas over the next few months, including final interviews for a new chancellor on the Chicago campus.
