Ill. Sec. of State Police dies

The director of the Illinois Secretary of State Police has died.

Brad Demuzio was found dead at his home Sunday afternoon.  An autopsy Monday found he died of natural causes, although no other details have been released.

Demuzio was 50 years old. He came from a political family, led by the state Senator and former Illinois Democratic Party Chairman Vince Demuzio, his father. His mother, Deanna, succeeded her husband in the Illinois Senate.

Brad Demuzio had also served as Carlinville mayor.

The Secretary of State Police are involved in consumer protection against fraudulent motor vehicle transactions. The department also oversees the state capitol police force. Demuzio's tenure included major security upgrades at the capitol complex.
