A record number of international students studied at U.S. colleges and universities during the last school year. For the second straight year, the University of Illinois’ Urbana campus finished second only to the University of Southern California in the annual ‘Open Doors’ report. Students from China, India and South Korea were among the 98-hundred international students who arrived on the Urbana campus last fall. Bryan Endres is the U of I’s Interim Associate Provost for International Affairs. He says one of the top goals on the Urbana campus is increasing diversity, and he points to many of the objectives within the U of I’s three-year Strategic Plan.
“Some of the themes that emerged – especially from Visioning Future Excellence was social equality and cultural understanding – along with economic development and health and wellness. But if we focus just on social equality and cultural understanding, that’s something that we’re trying to put some emphasis on on the campus.”
Indiana schools also featured in the report. Purdue University ranked third, right behind the U of I, while Indiana University ranked 13th.
