Quinn defends ADM veto threat

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn defends his threat to veto legislation to give tax incentives to Archer Daniels Midland Company to keeps its headquarters in Illinois.

Speaking Monday in Urbana, Quinn says until there’s a solution to the state’s nearly $100 billion dollar pension crisis, he’ll block any plan to give out tax breaks.

“Any special legislation that would give tax breaks to ADM or any other company I don’t think is the proper priority right now. The priority is pension reform that is constitutional and fair, and so I think the company would be best off helping us get pension reform.”

Last month, ADM announced that after 44 years in Decatur, it’s moving its global headquarters.

While the company won’t say what locations it's considering, Chicago officials have said the city is in the running.
