Illinois State Senator Bill Brady is hoping his third campaign for governor is a charm. The Bloomington Republican announced Wednesday he’s running for the executive branch again. IPR’S Tony Arnold reports.
Bill Brady lost to incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn in 2010 by about 32,000 votes. Four years earlier, he didn’t make it out of the Republican primary. Brady says now, he’s learned where he needs to do better.
"What I have learned is that this is a big state. 102 counties. We only won 98 of them."
In 2010, Brady won downstate, but didn’t do well in Chicago and its suburbs. Quinn criticized Brady’s stance on abortion and the euthanasia of puppies.
Brady says he’s hoping to win over more Chicago voters by pushing stricter penalties on gun crimes.
Brady’s Republican primary opponents include Treasurer Dan Rutherford, State Senator Kirk Dillard, and venture capitalist Bruce Rauner.
