U.N. weapons inspectors in Iraq are on two-day hiatus while Muslims celebrate the end of the Ramadan holy month. But this weekend -- when the feasting and partying ends -- Iraq must present the U.N. with an accounting of its weapons programs. NPR's Anne Garrels reports from Baghdad.

Boston Cardinal Confers with Vatican on Troubled Archdiocese
The head of the Boston Archdiocese meets with Vatican officials in Rome, while in Boston there are new calls for his resignation. Cardinal Bernard Law's trip follows revelations claiming he overlooked charges of priestly sexual misconduct longer than previously thought. Thurmond's Presidential Run
Robert Siegel speaks with Robert Dallek, a history professor at Boston University, about Storm Thurmond's 1948 presidential run on the Dixiecrat ticket. Last Thursday at Thurmond's 100th birthday celebration, Senate GOP Leader Trent Lott said that if Thurmond had been elected president, "...we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years."

Bush Announces Choice for New Economic Adviser
President Bush announces his choice for treasury secretary -- John Snow, chairman of CSX Transportation. Snow is no stranger to Washington. Hear NPR's Don Gonyea and Bob Lenzner, Forbes magazine national editor.
President's New Economic Team
President Bush today announced his new choice for treasury secretary: John W. Snow, chairman of the nation's largest railroad. Snow will now become the leading figure on the president's economic policy team, replacing Paul O'Neill, who was forced out last week. NPR's White House correspondent Don Gonyea reports.

NATO's Transformation Summit
President Bush today traveled from Prague to St. Petersburg, Russia, for the close of NATO's transformation summit. This is the first time a meeting of all NATO leaders was held behind the old Iron Curtain. Yesterday the Atlantic alliance invited seven East European countries into its ranks. Today's proceedings focused on NATO's relations with Russia. NPR's Guy Raz is in Prague.

United Airlines Files for Bankruptcy Protection
United Airlines' bankruptcy filing is the largest in the history of U.S. aviation. Company officials begin the daunting task of trying to restore the airline to profitability.
