Black & Decker is moving one of it factories out of a small Maryland town to Mexico, and taking the community's best-paying jobs with it. Like many laid-off manufacturing workers, the citizens of Easton, Maryland will find it tough to find new jobs that pay as much. NPR's Jack Speer reports.

Denial of Loan Request Adds to United's Woes
United Air Lines edges closer to bankruptcy after federal regulators refuse a request for loan guarantees. United officials assure ticketholders flights will continue, but the company's cash is dwindling. It now faces nearly $1 billion in debt payments. Prosecutor Seeks Dismissal of Central Park Jogger Convictions
The Manhattan District Attorney recommends the convictions of five young men accused of raping a Central Park jogger in 1990 be thrown out. The recommendation comes after DNA tests suggest another man committed the crime. NPR's Nancy Solomon reports.

Citing "weaknesses" and "discrepancies" in confessions, Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau seeks to nullify several convictions in the Central Park jogger case. Five black and Hispanic teenagers served prison terms for beating and raping a white female jogger in 1989. NPR's Nancy Solomon reports.

BET's Move to Shed Two News Programs Makes Some Wary
Black Entertainment Television plans to cut two of its regular news programs by the end of December. Viewers and critics are concerned that the decision will further diminish BET's service to blacks. Network officials say BET is not getting out of the news business. NPR's Laura Sydell reports.

A drone company is working to airlift dogs stranded by the volcano in La Palma
The company, Aerocamaras, has received permits it needs to try a unique rescue, in which a drone will drop a net on each dog, so it can whisk it over lava and to safety.
Birds Die by the Millions Flying into Cell Towers
Millions of birds are dying each year flying into cell phone towers and broadcast antennas. Conservation groups are preparing a lawsuit to put a moratorium on new towers until they're designed with birds in mind. NPR's Melanie Peeples reports.
