Tunnel Opens
- Even as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he would attend the Washington summit, his government declarted today that they would reopen the controversial archeological tunnel near Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem's Old City -- the same tunnel whose opening last week sparked the current round of violence. NPR's Eric Weiner reports on the latests developments on the ground.
God On Our Side
- Daniel talks with William Martin, author of the book "With God On Our Side: The Rise of the Religious Right in America." Martin says the Christian Coalition sucess in recent years is based in the members ability to form highly organized grassroots campaigns. Martin also says that suggestions that the Christian Coalition has peaked politically is not accurate.

Critic Bob Mondello reviews Neil Jordan's latest film, named for the Irish freedom fighter who organized and fought against England's occupation after the Easter Uprising of 1916.

Underwater Filmmaker
- Jacki talks with Brian Taves (TAYVES) of the Library of Congress about J.E. Williamson, a pioneer of undersea photography. The Library has just finished restoring Williamson's 1932 autobiographical film, "With Williamson Beneath The Sea." Williamson's invention, the "photosphere" enabled him to film undersea fish life for scientific purposes and to shoot underwater scenes for Hollywood movies. The photosphere was an observation "tank" with enough space for a couple of people and for cameras. It was suspended from a boat by a long tube that provided oxygen. Williamson's best-known film is a silent version of "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" (1916). Jacki also talks with Williamson's daughter, Sylvia Munro. Munro has fond memories of the hours she spent in the photosphere when she was a child.
Eddie Izzard
- Daniel talks with British comedian Eddie Izzard (eddie IHZ-zard), who is currently making his American debut. John Cleese of Monty Python fame calls Izzard "the funniest man in England today." Izzard's brand of comedy is full of keen observations on everyday life delivered in an ironic, understated manner.
Caught
Critic Bob Mondello reviews the film "Caught." It's based on the Edward Pomerantz novel "Into It." The book was optioned for filming 23 years ago and finally hits movie theaters in selected cities this week.
Nicaraguan Election
NPR's David Welna reports from Managua on Sunday's presidential election in Nicaragua. The two leading candidates are Daniel Ortega, former Sandinista president, and Arnoldo Aleman, the conservative former mayor of Managua. Aleman denies Ortega's charge that he represents a return to the days of the late dictator Anastasio Somoza, despite his popularity among supporters of the former Contra rebels. Aleman has vowed to cancel, or force compensation for, the thousands of property confiscations carried out by the Sandinistas when they were in power.

The great grandson of one of the founders of Coca Cola says he's going to sell the best-kept secret in corporate history: the Coca Cola formula. Susan speaks with Mark Pendergrast, author of "For God, Country, and Coca Cola," a history of the great soft drink company. (5:40) [outcue: (STAMBERG) "... the secret formula is valuable only as a piece of memorabilia."
Taba Talks
NPR's Eric Weiner reports from Jerusalem that after another round of peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators at Taba today, there is still no indication that progress on the main issue of an Israeli withdrawal from Hebron has been made. The Israeli and Palestinian negotiators express very different views of how the talks are going.
