Washington Mayor Gary Manier Running For Another Term

Washington Mayor Gary Manier wants to serve another four years leading the city.

Manier was first elected in 2001. A lot has happened over those nearly two decades, including the city's recovery from 2013's EF-4 tornado, the construction of Five Points Washington, the reconstruction of Illinois Route 8, and a surge in the city's population.

Manier said Washington remains fiscally sound during the COVID-19 pandemic, with no city workforce layoffs or cuts to city services.

"In 2013, I was proud to be your Mayor as we recovered from the worst natural disaster this city has ever faced. I ask the citizens of Washington to allow me to continue to serve in this capacity as we recover from this terrible pandemic," he said.

Manier said he plans to file his candidacy petitions on Monday.
