Peoria City Hall

Adhering to recommendation from the Illinois Departement of Public Health, Peoria will temporarily close its offices to the public starting Wednesday.

The move comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the state. The IDPH has reported more than 15,000 new cases since Thursday.

"Closing city buildings to the public is an important preventative measure to protect our staff while allowing us to continue services," said Mayor Jim Ardis in a media release announcing the closure.

Starting Wednesday, city staff will handle all daily functions and field requests by phone or email.

The city encourages anyone who who needs to conduct in-person business to do so Monday or Tuesday during office hours from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The city said a reopening date will depend on COVID-19 cases in the area.
