Tazewell County is reporting a major COVID-19 outbreak at the Federal Correctional Institution in Pekin.
Sixty of the 95 new cases reported countywide on Friday are in the federal prison's inmate population. The federal Bureau of Prisons reports 74 inmates and three employees are currently considered to be active COVID-19 cases.

The medium-security prison holds 1,158 total inmates, including 987 in the correction center proper.

The federal prison's staff and the Tazewell County Health Department are working to stem the outbreak.
