Former Midstate College Campus Has A Prospective New Tenant

Peoria P&Z Documents

The former Midstate College campus is on track to become the new home of the Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Institute.

Becky Burns, the group's chief operating officer, says the property presents an opportunity for BCDI to continue growing in Peoria.

"In the past four years, we've moved from 26 employees to 52. And our current space no longer holds us. Every closet is now an office," she said. "We looked at this property and think it's a good opportunity for us to really grow our business, continue to grow that employment base in Peoria, and really invest in this community. In the medical community here."

BDCI is currently located at 9128 N. Lindbergh Dr. in north Peoria.

Under the plan approved by the Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission, BCDI would occupy the former Building 1 and its expansion at 411 W. Northmoor. Other buildings on the lot would be demolished.

Project engineer Steve Kerr said there are hopes to attract a retailer or a restaurant with a drive-thru to fill additional space on the lot.

Midstate College closed last summer after 131 years in Peoria.

The full Peoria City Council is now set to vote on the proposal.
