The Center for Prevention of Abuse is still open for domestic violence survivors.
CEO Carol Merna says it's important for these services to remain available during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"There remains a population of Americans who are not safe in their homes. It's victims of domestic violence," Merna said. "Circumstances such as the one where we find ourselves right now, victims may in fact be quarantined with their abuser."
The Pekin shelter is closed, but the Peoria location remains open. Merna says it's currently at about 50 percent capacity. People are screened for coronavirus symptoms before they come in.
