The city council last night got a first look at a revitalization plan for the MacArthur Highway corridor on the city’s South Side.
The plan calls for a community market, an arts center, health and fitness opportunities and multi-story buildings with commercial on the bottom floor and housing units above.
The council has not yet earmarked any money to implement the plan. But First District Councilwoman Denise Moore said she thinks an initial investment from a non-governmental unit will spur additional interest.
"One of the things that I will be speaking with some of our medical organizations in the next quarter is about an urgent care facility. In 61605, there does not exist an urgent care facility," said Moore.
There is no timetable for development of the MacArthur Corridor plan. The revitalization plan was developed by the Peoria office of Houston-based IDG Architects.
