A 16-year-old Pekin girl was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after a fatal crash on Willow Street late Saturday.

The Pekin Police Department said the 16-year-old struck and killed Jennifer Shindledecker, 55, of Pekin, who was on a motorized scooter when she was hit at the intersection of Willow and N. 16th just after 9 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley.

Police said distracted driving was not a factor in the crash.
