A Peoria woman died Sunday due to the extreme heat, coupled with a lack of air conditioning.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said 61-year-old Julia Morgan was pronounced dead at her West Howett Street home after the heat exacerbated her chronic medical conditions.
A man also in the home was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment of a suspected heat-related illness. His condition is unknown.
Harwood says the home was 97 degrees inside. A window air conditioning unit was running on the living room floor, but not producing any cool air. Harwood said the couple was unable to lift the unit into the window.
