Fatal Knox County House Explosion Believed Accidential

RAPATEE -- The house explosion in Rapatee that killed two people is believed to be a tragic accident. 

Knox County Sheriff David Clague said Tuesday there is no indication of criminal activity leading up to the explosion.

Clague said Wanda Swain, 77; and David Swain, Jr., 51, both of 17 Illinois Route 97, died in the explosion on Sunday morning. 

Several other homes in the surrounding area were also damaged. The Illinois State Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the blast. 

The family's dog survived the explosion and is currently undergoing medical treatment at Knoxville Veterinary Clinic. The Fairview Cafe is collection money and gift cards for the family. 

Rapatee is just north of the Fulton County line.
