What's Going On With The Steamboat Days Carnival?

Peoria Area Community Events (PACE)

PEORIA -- Conflicting reports on social media may have you confused about the current status of Steamboat Days festivities now that the festival itself is cancelled on the Peoria riverfront.

Here's where things stand.

On Thursday, WCBU reported Peoria Area Community Events (PACE) was cancelling the annual Steamboat Days festival at Riverfront Park due to continuing flooding on the Illinois River creating an unsafe environment for the festival next weekend.

PACE Treasurer Mandy Eubank told WCBU the Steamboat Classic race would be re-routed but was still on. The carnival was cancelled.

Soon after the announcement, CDAC, Inc., the company which hosts the carnival at Steamboat Days, announced they would hold another carnival the same weekend at East Court Village in Pekin, with an additional day, Friday, added.

On Saturday, PACE issued a statement seeking to clear up some of the confusion about which events are, or are not, actually taking place next weekend. Both the Steamboat Classic and the Tailgate N Tallboys concert series are still happening.

"We are also aware CDAC Amusements was able to secure a space to hold a carnival next weekend; however, it is not in affiliation with PACE or Steamboat Days. We remain disappointed we were unable to secure a safe and financially viable location for the Peoria community to enjoy the carnival but wish the carnival owners and organizers the best for a successful weekend for this local business and its employees," said PACE in its statement.
