Peoria Armed Robbery Leads to Car Chase, Multiple Crashes

One man is in custody and Peoria police are searching for a second following a Tuesday evening armed robbery and car chase.

It all started when officers responded to a report of shots fired and a robbery in the 800 block of West MacQueen around 5:50 p.m. Police learned two suspects tried to shoot someone nearby before stealing the victim’s car.

Officers spotted the fleeing car near Knoxville and Richmond. It crashed into another vehicle and left the scene. An officer attempting to stop the stolen car was involved in a separate crash nearby with a van. The van occupants - an adult and four children - were not injured, but the officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The stolen car was then involved in a roll-over, hit-and-run accident near Fayette and Glen Oak, where at least one victim was injured. The suspects fled the stolen car after it struck a second vehicle on Glen Oak near the I-74 overpass.

One suspect was taken into custody after a foot chase. The second remains at large. The suspects haven’t been named. The injured officer and additional crash victims also remain unidentified.

The incident is under investigation.
