Peoria County Ends Daily Jail Report

The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is ending its daily jail report effective Friday.

Known as the daily commitment report, the document lists adults booked into the county jail over a 24-hour period.

Sheriff Brian Asbell says the report was created to meet freedom of information act requests. But, he says it’s become social media entertainment fodder. Asbell adds pending legislation would eliminate distribution of mug shots for low-level misdemeanors.

The sheriff says excluding those mug shots would require more manpower, making the report more costly. All other online jail records will remain available on the sheriff’s department website.

The inmate information phone line is also available to anyone who suspects a loved one may have been booked. The phone number is 309-697-7841.
