Peoria Homicide Victim Identified

A Peoria man likely died instantly after suffering three gunshot wounds Tuesday night. That’s the conclusion of the Peoria County Coroner’s office.

45-year-old Kommodor Tarver was found next to a vehicle in the 2600 block of North Hanssler Court. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:16 p.m.

Coroner Jamie Harwood says Tarver suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and two to the head. He adds an autopsy indicates Tarver was likely shot at close range.

Peoria police were responding to ShotSpotter alerts in the 2600 block of North Bootz and the 300 block of West Corrington when they received an additional call about a man down on North Hanssler Court.

Tarver’s death is Peoria’s 20th homicide of the year, with four other deaths already ruled justifiable use of force.

The Peoria Police Department and the coroner’s office are investigating the case.
