Pekin Public Library Closed Indefinitely

Pekin’s public library will remain closed indefinitely following last weekend’s severe storms.

Library Director Jeff Brooks says flash flooding caused significant water damage to flooring and drywall. No books or other library materials were damaged.

Officials had hoped to re-open the library next Monday, but more intensive cleanup and repairs are necessary to address numerous health hazards.

Brooks estimates the Pekin Public Library will not be fully operational until January 31, although staff is exploring ways to resume partial services and programming in upcoming weeks.

Overdue fines will not be issued until repairs to the book drop room are complete.

Patrons are urged to check the Pekin Public Library’s Facebook page or website for the most current updates.
