Tazewell County Reports West Nile Virus

Creative Commons

Tazewell County is the latest to report West Nile virus. The county health department says mosquitoes collected in East Peoria tested positive in August.

West Nile virus can lead to serious illness and death, although a majority infected will not show symptoms. Health officials are reminding the public to practice the three “R’s” - reduce exposure, repel when outdoors, and report stagnant water locations.

West Nile virus has been reported in a majority of Illinois’ counties including Peoria.

The state’s first West Nile-related death of 2018 was recorded in LaSalle County last month.
