Pekin Medical Professionals to Travel to Puerto Rico

World Atlas/GrapicMaps.com

Pekin-area medical professionals will operate a mobile clinic in Puerto Rico this fall.

Approximately 35 physicians, nurses and volunteers will staff the clinic in October as part of a UnityPoint Health-Pekin Medical Mission.

The nine-day clinic will offer medical exams and procedures, a pharmacy and school supply distribution. Cindy Justice is an ER and urgent care nurse for UnityPoint-Pekin. She says it takes up to ten months to plan the mission, and trip participants are selected by application.

The mobile clinic serves an average of 1600 patients, although a prior clinic served 2700 people. Proceeds Dash-at-Dusk 5-K run/walk on Friday, July 13, 2018, will benefit the Puerto Rico medical mission.
