Peoria and Galesburg Men Killed in Plane Crash

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Authorities have identified the victims of a plane crash in western Illinois that left two people dead.

Warren County Coroner Al McGuire says 65-year-old Robert V. Burkhart of Peoria and 72-year-old Roger D. Lundeen of Galesburg were killed with the plane crashed Sunday about a half mile from the Monmouth Municipal Airport.

Federal Aviation Administration records show Burkhart was the registered owner of the fixed-wing, single-engine plane, a model 415-D manufactured in 1946.

Authorities say the plane was burning when emergency crews arrived at the scene and firefighters put out the flames.

Burkhart and Lundeen were found in the wreckage and were pronounced dead at the scene. The department says no one on the ground was hurt by the crash about 60 miles northwest of Peoria.
