Peoria Public Schools Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat says she is “surprised and honored” to be named a 2018 Superintendent of Distinction. The award comes from the Central Illinois Valley Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators.
Kherat was nominated by her colleagues, who cite rising student achievement as one success. Her nomination says all grade-levels district-wide showed improvement on standardized tests. Kherat’s efforts to balance the district’s operating budget while reducing overall debt and community engagement were also mentioned in her nomination.
Kherat has been the district’s superintendent for three years. Kherat will deliver the community’s annual state of the schools address Wednesday.
