Caterpillar Visitors Center Gets New Name

The Caterpillar Visitors Center has a new moniker coinciding with its five-year anniversary. It’s now the Doug Oberhelman Caterpillar Visitors Center.

The former CEO says when they cut the ribbon on the facility five years ago, expectations were fairly low on its usefulness.“We had Edwards, we had our lobby that visitors liked to come into and so on. To realize 350,000 people have come through here, it is now the anchor in Peoria for our guests and visitors that come here, from all over the world.”

Oberhelman speaks to news reporters after the renaming of the Caterpillar Visitors Center.

Oberhelman says he’s honored to have his name on the front door. But he hopes any legacy he leaves with the company is something different. He says in his time as the CEO of Caterpillar he worked to push the customer focus. “Customers are the driver of this business and every business for that matter, Oberhelman said. “I think we really moved the needle on that.”

Ticket prices have been lowered to five dollars for today, tomorrow and Saturday to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Cat Visitor’s Center.
