Pekin Residents Get Fall House Cleaning Option

The City of Pekin is offering residents a Fall spruce up opportunity October 2nd through the 6th.

It’s designed to help residents get rid of certain unwanted items during regular garbage pick-up days.

Residents are asked to not block roll-out containers for garbage or recycling. Piles must also be contained to a 4 ft by 4 ft area.

City manager Tony Carson says some items simply don't fit in garbage carts. Further, he says people don't always have the time or the tools to break things down for proper disposal. He says the Spruce up aims to make it a little easier.

It’s intended for single-family residents. Commercial, business, and multi-family units do not qualify to participate in the service.

Items not accepted during Spruce Up include tires, electronics, TVs, appliances, water heaters, batteries, oils, gasoline, paint, concrete, propane tanks, chemicals or other hazardous materials.

While electronics are not accepted during the Spruce Up, Senator David Koehler’s 2nd Annual Electronics Recycling Event is Saturday, October 7. Electronics can be disposed of from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Area Recycling on Route 29 in South Pekin.
