Peoria Coalition Gathers Supporters to Defend Healthcare

Facebook

The Peoria Healthcare Coalition hosted its first annual forum at the Carver Center Tues.

Katie Jones is a co-organizer of the coalition of 15 different area groups. Jones says the goal of the forum was to determine specifically what that means in the greater Peoria area.

Jones says if the current federal healthcare bill passes the Senate, it will be a problem for the local healthcare industry.

“We’re all coming together to say we demand transparency. We don’t want any of this smoke and mirrors information that’s being put out there,” Jones said. “And we want fight to stand up for what’s morally appropriate for all of us.”

The Peoria Healthcare Coalition's core belief is that essential healthcare services are a basic right. She says there has to be a better balance and funding model between the current system and what’s being proposed.
