A Chicago man pleaded guilty Monday for using information obtained in the 2015 Bradley University data breach to file false income tax returns. 41-year-old Gbadebo Adebiyi appeared before U.S. District Judge Joe Billy McDade.
Adebiyi admitted to conspiring with others to get refunds from false income tax returns including the information obtained from the data breach Bradley reported in March 2015. Bradley employee’s personal information was used to file 2014 false federal income tax returns.
Adebiyi is scheduled for sentencing May 3rd. The refunds were directed to 3rd-party cash cards, and totaled up to an estimated $770,000.
Adebiyi pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud. He’s scheduled for sentencing May 3rd.
35-year-old Chicago resident Idris Akande is also a suspect in the case and he remains a at large.
