The Heart of Illinois United Way is celebrating the close of its 2016 fundraising campaign that collected more than $11 million.
Katie McCord Jenkins co-chaired the effort with her husband. Jenkins says those who gave to the campaign responded to the need created by the state’s continued budget impasse.
“There’s funding issues that these agencies are facing. We need to step up as a community and do everything we can to off-set where they aren’t getting help anymore,” Jenkins said.
The Heart of Illinois United Way fundraising campaign helps 46 agencies. Those agencies in-turn help more than 100,000 people a year in Central Illinois.
