The Women’s March On Washington included sister protests held across the country, including Peoria.

Saturday’s march along the riverfront drew a much larger crowd than organizers anticipated. Some estimated the attendance at more 1,500 people.

The march in Peoria was largely planned and led by women, but it was attended by a people from a wide range of backgrounds, races, religions, gender identities, ages and abilities.

Nora Sullivan is a co-organizer. She says the rally served to show the country is great because of its diversity.

“And I think our difference is that we believe we need to look at things like the environment and protect the environment,” Sullivan said. “We need to say that the laws protecting people need to be in place.”

Those who organized the Women’s March in Peoria encouraged those in attendance to follow the Peoria Rallies page on Facebook for future events and discussions.
