Illinois Corn Yield Booming

U.S. Department of Agriculture's Crop Production Report is out. The President of the Illinois Corn Growers Association says it’s worth farmers excitement to see the considerable increases in exports coupled with increases in feed and ethanol uses.

Corn production in the U.S. was at an all time high standing at more than 174 bushels per acre. Illinois yield was 197 bushels per acre. That’s the second highest in the state’s history.

The Illinois Corn Growers Association president says the group remains committed to working on markets and building demand to use the corn grown in the state.

Meantime a summer publication by Business Climate on Illinois’ Top Industries says the state feeds the world with agricultural output at more than $20 billion annually. Corn accounted for nearly 40% of that total.
