Interstate-74 Project in Morton Complete

Tanya Koonce

IDOT says the lengthy Interstate 74 project in Morton is complete.

Interstate 74 is now three lanes in each direction from Pleasant Hill Road to Morton avenue. The 1-55 interchange is also reconfigured to improve access to Morton Ave and that community. Morton Mayor Ron Rainson says thank you doesn’t seem like enough:

“I mean the state has said there’s not enough money to do all the roads and fix all the roads and bridges and yet they spent millions of dollars fixing I-74 right in front of Morton Illinois. And so what I have to say is we’re just grateful!”

The series of interstate upgrades that happen in Morton started in 2013 when the state still had a budget.

Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn says the project was overdue for the Morton stretch of interstates 1-55 and 74 that sees 40-thousand vehicles a day.
