Daughters of the American Revolution Honor Bradley University Founder

Bradley University

The headstones of Lydia Moss Bradley and her father Zeally Moss received honorary markers yesterday from the Daughters of the American Revolution. The family burial site and headstones in Springdale Cemetery now have permanently affixed markers recognizing Zeally Moss as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and Lydia Moss Bradley’s headstone as a Real Daughter. The Real Daughter designation identifies those whose fathers were soldiers. Zeally Moss saw the surrender of Cornwallis in the Revolutionary War. He served as what they called the ‘wagon master.’ Lydia was a member of the Peoria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The DAR Peoria Chapter has placed glued markers on Lydia Moss Bradley’s headstone previously and they were stolen. This is the first time they have placed such an honorary marker on Zeally Moss’s headstone. Both are bolted in place.
