Goodwill warns of scam

Goodwill of Central Illinois is warning people about a scam involving solicitations for donations to its Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event.

The social service provider reports solicitations are being made by phone to obtain money for the agency’s annual event that provides resources for homeless veterans.

Patty Fuchs is the president and CEO of Goodwill. She says the agency does not solicit monetary donations by phone for any event or program.  She says they are asking people to be on the lookout for the scam and pass the word on to their friends and families.

Those who receive a call for a monetary donation to Goodwill in the Peoria area are also asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521.
