East Peoria approves program for patients post-hospital treatment

City of East Peoria

The City of East Peoria will have a new program next month to help those with certain medical conditions after a hospital stay.

The Mobile Integrated Healthcare Services Pilot program has OSF Healthcare partnering with the Fire Department to do home visits. Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Beck says they’ll start the program visiting those with Diabetes, COPD and Congestive Heart Failure.

“The Fire Department in working with OSF will take those referrals and we’ll have a schedule that we’ll go out and see those patients.  The first visit within 24 to 48 hours after their discharge from the hospital,” Beck said.

The first week a person is home, East Peoria Firefighter Paramedics will visit twice and once a week for the next three. The hospital will pay the city $95 for each visit.

The year-long pilot program will measure outcomes to assess its value. Advanced Medical Transport has been doing such visits for about nine months in Peoria’s 61603 and 61605 zip codes.

In other East Peoria business, the city council unanimously approved the new EastPort Marina Management Agreement with Roberts & Sons Marina Management. Ron Roberts is the new harbor master of EastPort.

E-cigarettes are also now banned in city facilities.
