Pekin Taps HR Director to be Interim Manager

LinkedIn

The City of Pekin has a new interim city manager. Sarah Newcomb is the city’s director of human resources. But starting Tuesday she’s wrapping city manager duties into her responsibilities. The office has been unmanned since last month.

“Yes, there is a pile, I already have ready to go. So we’ll get started on that  and  there’s usually a staff meeting on Tuesday. So those will be the first order of business.”

Newcomb says following closely behind the first orders of business, is the matter of finding the next city manager. Newcomb will be compensated at the prorated annual salary of the current city manager, which is $125,000. She is also the female to hold the position.

Former City Manager Darin Girdler has been on paid administrative leave since last month and resigned last week. The city did not hire an assistant city manager when Girdler ascended from the seat.

Mayor John McCabe says he’s hopeful the city will have a new full-time city manager in place by June.
