Illinois brothers charged in 1983 cold case beating death

Authorities in Lee County have charged two brothers, both in their 60s, in connection with a grisly 1983 beating death in which the victim's body was found naked, bound and gagged in a hog pen.

68-year-old Terry E. Bobell and 65-year-old Gordon K. Bobell of Chillicothe were arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Gary D. Dawson of Peoria.  They are held at Lee County Jail on $1 million bond each.

Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller says Steven Watts is still charged with first-degree murder in Dawson's death. The 57-year-old Watts of Berryville, Arkansas, was charged in 2013 and released the following year after posting the required $10,000 after his bond was reduced to $100,000.
