Commission Talks Truck Traffic In Downtown Peoria

The Peoria Downtown Advisory Commission is considering ways to give trucks less incentive to use Washington Street through the roundabout. Commission Chair Mark Misselhorn says the large trucks are still allowed to use Washington, despite making the roads narrower and adding on-street parking. He says one option is to add more four-way stops along Washington Street:

“It’s intuitive, people are familiar with it. It costs very little money to put some signs up. Even businesses along there typically would appreciate it because traffic is going to go slower, if you have a store there, people are going to notice things more.”

Misselhorn says trucks –like those hauling grain to the ADM facility south of the downtown, for example, or making other various hauls - might instead choose to take another route via 474 or Jefferson.
