Center for Prevention of Abuse to hold annual fundraiser race in East Peoria

High water levels on the Illinois River are affecting an annual rubber duck race for Peoria’s Center for Prevention Of Abuse.

The group’s largest fundraiser is being held at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria on a large slip-and-slide this year.  Prevention of Abuse Executive Director Carol Merna says the state budget crisis underscores the importance of the annual event:

“It’s very difficult for a business, for a non-profit, which is also a business, to live off of that uncertainty.”

To that end, Merna says the Center is dipping into reserves to cover some services, including a program that helps young children affected by violence. The Duck Race is Saturday, August 29th. Ducks can be purchased at various businesses. A link to purchase the ducks online can also be found by clicking here.
