The Tazewell County Health Department has confirmed its first batch of mosquitoes carrying the potentially deadly West Nile Virus.
Environmental Health Supervisor Melissa Goetze says residents can protect themselves by wearing insect repellent with DEET during peak mosquito hours of dusk to dawn.
Department employees collected the positive batch this week in Mackinaw.
