Peoria County gets $2.3M in grants for flooded home removal

Peoria County is getting more than $2 million to remove homes damaged in the floods two years ago.  FEMA awarded the county two grants to acquire 35 properties near Edwards and in flood plains along the Illinois River.  Officials say some of the homes are vacant.  Grant money will pay homeowners of occupied structures to vacate.  Peoria County has been buying-out property owners for the last three decades following floods under a special program.
